Antony joined the Centre for Governance and Scrutiny in August 2024, having previously worked in a series of academic, research and consultancy roles for the previous ten years.
Following a PhD and teaching roles at the University of Durham, Antony worked in higher education and skills consultancy, supporting universities and public bodies in the sector to respond to a changing higher education landscape. This involved working with some of the best-known universities in the UK, as well as organisations such as the British Library and Pearson Education.
After this, Antony moved back into academia, working in education and public policy roles. At the University of Bolton, he co-designed and led a major global study which involved research participants from around the world and then, at the University of Exeter, produced a review of early years policy in England which was aimed principally at decision-makers in local government. He continues to publish on different areas of political history and government – and has provided historical consultancy to a TV production company.
In addition to his research and consultancy experience, Antony has gained experience in local government and currently serves a member of a Local Government Association Policy Board.
